Why take Your Best Shot?

We believe every hygienist can learn safe, effective, repeatable local anesthesia techniques. This course was created by dental professionals for dental professionals to fulfill the didactic portion of education as required by the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners. In this course, you will learn from eight dental professionals with different experiences in administering local anesthesia in the dental office. When it's time to put your new knowledge to the test, the in-person participation course is centrally located in Charlotte.

Better for the office, the patient and you!

Your time is valuable. Why waste up to a third of your appointment time waiting for something you can do yourself?  When the hygienist administers the anesthesia everyone wins:  the patient does not have to wait, the doctor does not have to interrupt another patient's care, and the hygienist gets more time. Everyone loves more time. Time you can finish scaling, time you can flip a room, or time you can finally have a sip of your morning coffee.

Learn on Your Time

Let's face it–how you learn is important. While other courses require you to attend in-person lecture, Local Anesthesia for the Dental Hygienist is available anytime, on-demand–giving you the ability to learn on your own time! Research shows that learning in smaller chunks supports memory and recall. Instead of spending multiple days in a classroom, complete the coursework on your own schedule from any computer, tablet, or smartphone. The average video segment is less than 8 minutes long!

Increase Your Skills

As a Dental Hygienist, you are multi-faced and talented individual who cares for patients during each visit. In late 2021, the North Carolina Dental Board authorized certified hygienists to administer local anesthesia. Gone are the days of having to rely on the dentist to numb the patient for a quadrant of scaling and root planing. At the end of the day, you are a health care provider who is more than capable of mastering this skill!

The Fine Print

Per the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners, in addition to the 24 hours outlined above, proof of an additional 24 injections under supervision of a licensed dentist is required. This requirement will be fulfilled during the in-person clinical portion. The participant will then submit proof of completion of this course to the Board for Certification along with a signed letter from Your Best Shot certifying clinical competency.

To be eligible for this certification you must be a licensed hygienist in the state of NC, per G.S. 90-221, with two years work experience.

Your Best Shot in NC is a PACE provider. PACE is a recognized by the NC State Dental Board of Examiners as an approved provider.
